The problem of woman effect in the works of Fatma Aliye Hanım

The Ottoman State, which has been interacting with Western civilization since its foundation, has taken an approach that modeled the West during the last stages. Reforms have been developed and new dimensions have been developed and economic and social problems have been tried to be solved. The Ottoman Empire underwent structural transformations in many areas under the influence of political, social, economic, intellectual, and tecnological developments in the West and involved in amodernization process which became inevitable for non-Western societies at that time. The concept of Westernization and modernization that has entered our lives with the Tanzimat edict and the role of these concepts as a phenomenon have played a symbolic role in 'women' issue. In this process, the social identity of women has been increasing day by day and the issues about women have been raised frequently. Ottoman women did not remain indifferent to issues related to themselves and showed the necessary sensitivity. Fatma Aliye, the daughter of Ahmet Cevdet Pasha, one of the most important thinkers of the tanzimat era was influed by his father's ideas, she succeeded in being a pioneer woman in social life as her father desired but she did not leave her identity as a conservative Ottoman woman. With the rise of problems such as the social position of women while the development of Western-based reforms, has embraced issues of feminity, followed by a traditionalist line on women's education, inclusion in working life. For this purpose, in this study, the works of Fatma Aliye Hanım's were examined. Knowing the world of thought of Fatma Aliye Hanım, who works on almost every topic of women in the process of modernization, has been important in terms of understanding the 19th century Ottoman woman. The subjects mentioned in her works have been about women's education, work, marriage, position in family and her ideas on these issues were analyzed without disregarding national and Islamic values. She has succeeded to be an influential writer with his works written on this axis of thought.
