The Quran and tafseer concept of professor doctor Mahmud Es'ad Cosan

Mahmud Es'ad Cosan is one of the most prominent scholars and thinkers of the recent epoch. He has carried out hundreds of lectures in many areas of Islamic sciences and had begun giving Tafseer lectures a while before his death. These Tafseer lessons encompass the Ayah's from Surat al-Fatiha up until the 223rd Ayah of Surah al-Bakara, ending here, as a tragic accident had resulted in his death. I have utilised and examined these lectures, as well as his previous lectures in this study of other verses, in order to effectively analyse Cosan's method of interpreting the Qur'an and Tafseer. This very method has been used throughout this thesis to provide solutions for current issues such as; religious dialogue, sunnah denial, and opposition to Islam, by giving answers through the Qur'an. This thesis consists three main sections. The introduction section relays specific highlights of Cosan's life and his scholarly personality, whilst the first section discusses his interpretation of the Qur'an and the second section elaborates on his understanding of Tafseer.
