The study of the opinions of the teacher candidates of science as regards the nature of the science and technology

The aim of this study is to examine the views of the teacher candidates of science as regards the nature of the science and to determine whether their views differ according to their sex, the type of the high school they graduated, the type of the education at the university (normal or evening education), socio-economic level and academic level parameters. 242 teacher candiadates of science who studied at the Inonu University Education Faculty in 2013-2014 education period joined the study. To evaluate the views of the teacher candidates, the questionnaire of BDTÜG with 20 items, which was chosen and then translated and adapted into Turkish from the questionnaire of "Views on Science, Technology and Society" (VOSTS), which was developed by Aikenhead, Ryan and Fleming empirically and consists of 8 categories and 114 multiple-choice questions was used. The data obtained was analyzed by means of the SPSS 21.0 statistics packet program. In analyzing the data, frequency (f), percentage (%) and Chi-Square test were used. At the end of the study, the teacher candidates of science were seen to have realistic views in the seven items, unrealistic but reasonable views in the six items and unsuitable or insufficient views in the seven items of the questionnaire of BDTÜG. It has been concleded that all the insufficient views of the teacher candidates were related to the items about the characteristics of the scientific knowledge, i.e. the nature of the scientific knowledge. As for the other results of the study, it was noticed that there were dramatic difference concerning four items on the parameter of academic, four items on the parameter of sex, three items on the parameter of the type of the education, one item on the parameter of the high school the student graduated and one item on the parameter of socio-economic level in terms of the effects of the demographic features of the teacher candidates on their views as regards the nature of the science.
