Researching perception about life skills of preservice science teachers in terms of multiple variables

The updated educaiton programs expect that students graduated from the university by becoming skillful at finding solution to problems they encounter, multiple and practical thinking, being active in social life besides academic informations. In the science curriculum, scientific processes, life skills, technology and design skills are gathered under the 21st century skills of the Ministry of National Education. The data of this research, which aims to describe the life skills of pre-service science teachers and examine some variables that are thought to affect these skills, were obtained with the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 404 volunteer science teacher candidates from 1,2,3 and 4th grades of different universities. Research data were collected by using the Life Skills Scale. Descriptive statistics and independent t-test and ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. In the obtained results it is determined that life skills of the pre-service science teachers are high in general. Another result is that life skills of pre-service science teachers differ according to gender, class, age group and the time spent on the internet daily. In the direction of obtained results it is suggested to open courses to develop life skills in science teaching undergraduate programs and to give in-service training to teachers to gain life skills.
