Examining of anxiety levels toward the teaching profession of science teachers and class teacher candidates

Abstract (EN)

This research aims to compare between departments and to examine the level of anxiety towards teaching profession of science and classroom teachers in terms of various sociodemographic versions (gender,age range,choice order of department, classroom degree, kind of high school they graduated, the place where their family lives, educational status of parents, monthly income level of the family and the reason of choosing the teaching profession). 351 teacher candidates from all grades (1., 2., 3., 4th classes) who have been studying in the department of science and classroom teaching profession at Akdeniz University Faculty of Education during the spring term (second semester) of 2017-2018 academic year has been participated with simple random sampling method to this research which has been used general surveillance model as method. Personal Information Form which is prepared by researcher, consist of 12 substances and Anxiety Scale of Teaching Profession improved by Köklükaya and Yıldırım (2016), contained 35 substances, fivefold likert scale has been applied to teacher candidates who attend to this research. Data which is obtained as a result of applied scales has been determined to supply normal dispersion condition and has been applied parametric tests which are about to statistical analysis programmes. Findings which are obtained as a result of this research show meaningfully that students who study in department of Science Teaching Profession have more general anxiety status and it's inferior dimensions (task centered anxiety and self centered anxiety) than Classroom Teaching Profession students. It has been predicted that Science Teaching students have average level of self centered anxiety, low level of task centered anxiety and low level of general anxiety. On the other hand, it has been seen that Classroom Teaching Profession students have low level of task centered anxiety, self centered anxiety and general anxiety. Also meaningful differences have been found between teacher candidates' anxiety towards teaching profession and some sociodemographic differences. It has been reached that students who are at the 18-20 age range have more task centered anxiety and general anxiety than 21 years and older students. In addition to this, while it has been found meaningful differences between professional anxiety and gender, level of class, choice order of department and the reason of choosing department factors in one department's students; it has not been found meaningful differences in the other department's students. Beside of these, it has not been found meaningful differences between professional anxiety and GANO, kind of high school they graduated, the place where their family lives, monthly income level of the family, educational status of parents.
