Sample lesson plans for using creative drama method in the 6th grade 'Systems in Our Body and Health' Unit

Creative drama is the process of examining any subject, concept, photograph and situation with drama techniques and play-like processes in a place, accompanied by a leader, based on the past experiences of a group of participants.Using the creative drama method in the "Systems in Our Body and Health" Unit will reduce the limitations of the traditional teaching method in the science lesson and it will enable the students to embody this unit, which seems abstract and also the students will learn while having fun. In this way, individuals will absorb information more and learn by doing and experiencing. In addition, basic language skills will develop, cooperation and solidarity among them will increase and they will become more socialized. In this qualitative research, the techniques of the creative drama method, the games used in the creative drama and the materials in the 6th Grade Education Information Network of Primary School have been scanned and the course plans are developed for using the creative drama method in the "Systems in Our Body and Health" Unit of the 6th grade textbook of the Ministry of National Education in Turkey. In addition, suggestions are given in this thesis on how the creative drama method should be applied in an environment and with materials that teachers can access such as authentic documents such as music, texts, waste materials, and values that can be used in the course plans. In this manner, it is suggested that the drama class should not be in a very hot/cold, low/high light and it should be properly ventilated and kept clean. Furthermore, it is also suggested that since 12-year-old children are in the concrete operational stage, it would be appropriate to use moving music, but other types of music could be used as well and the number of participants needs to be limited to 12 due to the difficulties of applying the creative methods in large groups. It has been determined that activities that convey personal and social values to the students such as cleanliness, health and cooperation can be included in the course plans for the "Systems in Our Body and Health" Unit with the creative drama method.
