Science teachersʹ and teacher candidatesʹ knowledge proficiencies in topics of the unit systems, pre-multiplier and dimensional analysis

Abstract (EN)
The topics of the unit systems, pre-multipliers and dimension analysis are widely used indirectly and/or directly for Science courses and have an important place. In this study, science teachersʹ (working in the central district of Mus Province) and science teacher candidatesʹ (studying in three different state universities in Turkey) knowledge proficiencies in topics of the "Unit Systems, Pre-Multipliers and Dimensional Analysis" were investigated. The sample of the study consisted of 235 volunteers from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students studying in the science teaching department of 3 different public universities and 30 science teachers working in schools in the central district of Muş. In this study, the predictive analysis method applied to 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students and graduates of science teaching department was used. At this stage, a 27-questions academic achievement test consisting of three parts was prepared for the stopics of unit systems, pre-multipliers and dimension analysis. This achievement test was applied to 143 students studying science teaching in three different public universities. According to the results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test of the 27-questions academic achievement test data applied in the study, it was found that the test scores did not show a normal distribution (p <.05). Since the academic achievement test did not show a normal distribution and the number of groups used was more than two, the academic achievement test of the groups was analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test which is one of the non-parametric tests. As a result of the research, it was found that there is a significant difference on the knowledge proficiencies of teachers and prospective teachers on the topics studied in terms of university, class and teachers.
