Abstract (EN)
Turkish literature has a very rich tradition in terms of works that contain valuable elements such as traditions, customs, language and belief belonging to Turkish-Islamic culture. Many of these works are not works that can be directly and fully understood by almost everyone, both in terms of expression and content, at first glance, due to the literary period in which they were created. At this point, the commentary method comes into play for a better understanding of the work. The concept of commentary, which has the meanings of opening, separating, splitting, as a word, is used in the texts in the form of explaining, explaining and interpreting. In this regard, the number of works in the form of annotation in Turkish literature constitutes a large sum. One of them is Ferâ'izî-zâde Mehmed Sa'îd Efendi's Pend-nâme-i Attar Commentary. This work, which is the commentary of the Pendnâme of Ferîdüddin Attar, who is among the Sufi poets of the 12th century Sufi literature, was written in 1224/1809. Ferâ'izî-zâde Mehmed Sa'îd Efendi was born in Bursa. He is the son of Dersiâm Seyyid Ferâ'izî Mehmed Efendi. He is known with the title Ferâ'izî-zâde. The author received his first education from his father and continued at the madrasah. Meanwhile, he trained himself privately and improved his Arabic. He received knowledge from Mehmed Hafîd Efendi. Ferâ'izî-zâde, who also served as a military chief clerk at the Bursa court, also has a history book called Târîh-i Gülşen-i Maârif besides the Pend-nâme-i Attar Commentary. Ferâ'izî-zâde Mehmed Sa'îd, who is described as a historian by researchers, died in 1251/1835 and his grave is in the Emir Sultan Mosque. While writing his work, Ferâ'izî-zâde took couplets from Pendnâme for some leaves. Sarih first numbered these couplets he took from Pendnâme, and then examined the unknown words in the couplets both in terms of structure and meaning. He mentioned the grammatical features of the words in the structure. In terms of meaning, he gave the Arabic, Persian and Turkish equivalents of the words. After this process, that couplet was annotated. He enriched his commentary with verses, hadiths and stories.
