New possibilities in figurative image

The figure has always been in an important position in art history as the subject of the art and the artist. We can observe that the figure has been taken into account theoretically and empirically in a spatial and temporal dimension in art history. The figure has not lost its importance in modern art and it is still being used in different disciplines. The fictive and formal dimension of the chosen subject has been examined by allowing for artifacts and interpretations regarding the figure as a subject especially starting from the later period of the 20th century until today. The aim of this thesis titled ?New Possibilities in the Figurative Image? is to define the importance of the figure in art history starting from the past until recent years and to emphasize how the new possibilities have affected figure images. The new possibilities offer the opportunity for the artist to describe with his art, the contradicting situations of everyday life and the usage of new materials in his/her art. The figure is always at the centre of art. Following 1980, the situation of figure in our days has turned for some artists into a means or for others into an ends to describe a subject. In order for a human being to determine his own position in nature, he has been compressed into two dimensional surfaces and has been mixed with crowds, both physically and spiritually. To summarize, the image of figure will always cross our path in the history of art or in modern art. The researcher is searching for a discovery in figure images or paintings just like a person searches his inner self and inner soul in his everyday life. The artist within this context has explained the studies he has carried out with new symbols and has tried to create a new language. This language is improved and developed according to the symbols we have ascribed onto subjects in past history and today. The researcher has converted his studies into this said symbolized language. A tree, a circle and a snake forms these symbols. The tree symbolizes a bridge between the sky and the earth. The circle symbolizes the sky and divinity. The snake symbol is mysterious for manhood throughout time in some cultures or shows changing approaches in some other cultures.The main figure of the compositions is usually manhood.
