The use of organic typography as a film language

In the 21st century typography has developed as a means to enrich and broaden the borders of visual communication providing for a wide range of experimental approaches. Experimental techniques in typography provide for new perspectives to visual communication by strengthening the relationship between the content and the visual form of the language. In the beginning of the 21-century designers have returned to the use of typographic forms produced from organic materials. These types of letterforms have a distinct character that separates them for that of the computerized letterform that has dominated graphic design for the past several decades.From this perspective, this dissertation aims to examine how hand made letters are used as elements to affect the content of language in film language. In support of this investigation this dissertation will additionally create films that combine hand made letterforms and music. These films will provide the evidence for the written investigation of experimental approaches to the role of the hand made letterform as a visual element in film.
