Lecoq pedagogy in Physical Theater and staging of a text with this approach

The starting point of this study is the question of how 'Lecoq Pedagogy', which is evaluated under the title of Physical Theater, can be realized in a theater production. With that question in mind, an example of how the tools and practices proposed by Jacques Lecoq can be evaluated by the director and actors during the staging process of a literary text is presented using Melih Cevdet Anday's novel 'Gizli Emir'. In the study, it is tried to explain how the given conditions in a literary text can be associated with a physically focused approach, which tools and applications are used for the creation of scenes, characters, places, situations and atmospheres in the play and the reasons for the these preferences. In this regard, firstly, the basic concepts, in particular those related to Lecoq Pedagogy and Physical Theater in general were examined, the historical background that shaped Jacques Lecoq's approach was mentioned, the tools he used in his pedagogy were introduced, and finally, how the concepts and tools mentioned throughout the thesis were applied to the staging process of the play "Gizli Emir" is explained. In the conclusion part of the thesis, Lecoq Pedagogy, where the term 'Physical Theater' should be defined as an 'approach' rather than a specific 'genre', where physicality is the core of the actors creative quality, prioritizing the analysis and playfulness of the movement, provides many tools and practices for the actor.
