Ambivalent sexism, attachment styles and interpersonal dependence as predictors of dating violence attitude

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between adults' attitudes towards dating violence and ambivalent sexism, attachment styles and interpersonal addiction. In this study, it was also examined whether the attitude towards dating violence significantly differed according to gender, marital status and education level. The study group consists of a total of 301 participants, 209 women and 92 men. The age of the participants is between 18-54. Thirty-four of the participants were high school graduates and 267 (88.7%) were university graduates. Of the participants, 80 were married, 211 were single and 10 were divorced. Dating Violence Attitude Scale (Terzioğlu, 2016), Paradoxical Sexism Scale (Sakallı-Uğurlu, 2002), Three-Dimensional Attachment Styles Scale (Erzen, 2016) Interpersonal Addiction Scale (Akın ve diğ, 2016) scales were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the analysis, a relationship was found between the attitude of dating violence and avoidant attachment and ambivalent attachment. Again, while there was a relationship between the attitude of dating violence and protective sexism, hostile sexism and emotional dependence, there was no relationship between secure attachment and operational dependence. While the dating violence attitude is predicted by the avoidant attachment and emotional attachment variables, it is not predicted by the anxious ambivalent attachment, protective sexism and hostile sexism variables. In addition, dating violence attitude does not differ according to gender, marital status and educational status. The findings obtained from the research were discussed in line with the sub-problems.
