Remediations of folkloric horror memory in YouTube: sample of Turkish horror

Creativity is the general name of all the elements that an individual creates with the aim of using what he/she designs with the materials at hand in a social, economic or cultural function by expressing the talents he/she embodies with the urge to search for the new and original. When considered in the context of cultural studies, the source of this creativity undoubtedly lies in the essence of the traditional culture of the relevant community. Digital communication technologies, which have become one of the main sources of food for the creation, transmission and reinterpretation of folkloric production, are the reserve and reference source of different creations and productions that can be diversified at any time with contemporary expressions in the context of the opportunities and possibilities it offers. It is also vital in the processing and effective marketing of traditional culture. The source from which many popular elements of our modern life are fed is the oral narrative tradition, which is the literary equivalent of traditional knowledge. It is clear that the tradition- based contemporary content and expressions examined in this research are fed by the oral narrative tradition. Using digital technologies that reflect the functionality and characteristics of folkloric productions created and performed with contemporary expressions in the context of virtual performance, contemporary people produce creative, original and innovative content with the oral narrative tradition, which is a product of traditional society, and experience the possibilities and opportunities offered by the contemporary performance context. The main reference point is the cultural frameworks offered to him by the traditional culture in which he lives. The experiential expressions produced by contemporary people through creative interventions have been used in different ways in the context of virtual performance, which we encounter as digital communication technology contents. In this study; the contexts that emerged in the context of the possibilities offered by digital communication technologies were seen as a virtual performance environment. The production, transmission and functions of urban legends, which are accustomed to be performed face-to-face, on the virtual plane, which is a contemporary cultural environment, will be tried to be explained in the context of the concept of performance.
