Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the effects of a corrective exercise program based on the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) on athletic performance parameters of male artistic gymnasts. The research evaluates the contribution of FMS-based exercises to athletes' movement quality, strength, speed, and overall performance levels. The study was conducted using an experimental design and included a total of 24 male artistic gymnasts, aged between 14 and 22, who are actively training at the Turkey Olympic Preparation Center (TOHM) and competing at the Olympic level. Participants were divided into two groups as an experimental group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). Both groups underwent pre-tests, including FMS, vertical jump, and 20-meter sprint tests. The experimental group followed a 6-week structured exercise program based on their FMS results, targeting mobility, stability, and motor control. The control group continued their routine gymnastics training during the same period without any additional intervention. The findings revealed a significant improvement in FMS scores, vertical jump performance, and 20-meter sprint time in the experimental group. No statistically significant changes were observed in the control group. These results suggest that FMS-based programs can contribute not only to injury prevention but also to enhancing athletic performance. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that FMS-based exercises can be an effective tool for improving performance in sports that require high motor skills, such as artistic gymnastics. Accordingly, practical recommendations are presented for integrating FMS protocols into athlete development and training planning processes.
