Synthesis and characterization of functional polyazomethines

Abstract (EN)

In this study, 21 polyazomethine ethers which are classified in functional polyazomethine groups were studied. The chemical structure, thermal and electrical analyses of syntesized polyazomethine ethers were investigated. So, new aldehyde and amine compounds which have double active groups were syntesized by bromide elimination in DMF solution. The yield of polyazomethine ethers were found between %80-95. The structure of synthesized monomers and polymers were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DTA-TG, DSC and electrical conductivity methods. According to 1H-NMR results, -HC=N- (azomethine) linkages have formed during polymerisation process, but -NH2 (amine) and -CHO (carbonyl) units of monomers were seen as end groups. When thermogravymetric (TG) analysis data were examined, synthesized polyazomethine ethers have showed thermo resistant properties. The conductivity of synthesized polyazomethines were also studied and showed typically semi conductive property. According to solubility test results, all of monomers synthesized were soluble in polar solvents as DMF, DMSO, DMac, ethyl alcohol, ethl acetate, methyl acohol, chloroform, acetone. But they were not soluble in apolar solvents such as n-hexane and n-heptane. It was investigated that synthesized polyazomethine ethers are soluble in DMSO and DMac by heating, are not soluble in ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate methyl alcohol, chloroform, acetone. When DSC data examined Tg and ?Cp values of polyazomethine ethers were found between 136-253 oC and 0.098-0.980 J/goC respectively.
