Abstract (EN)
In this study which performed on male rats, harmful effects of formaldehyde applied inhalation on reproductive system were investigated. Apart from this, possible protective effects of rose oil were evaluated against formaldehyde exposure. For this purpose, 21 adult male Wistar rats were divided into three groups. The Gruop I was used as the control group. The animals in Group II were exposed to 10 ppm formaldehyde for 35 days (1 hour a day). The animals in Group III were not only applied to the same formaldehyde dosage, but also applied 1ml rose oil per day via inhalation. At the end of the experiment, the rats were decapitated. When the hypothalamus and testes were used for immunohistochemical and histological evaluations, the epididymis tissues were taken for sperm analyzing. Testosterone levels were determined from the blood samples taken from animals. When the rats were exposed to formaldehyde compared with the contol group, it was determined that the hypothalamus tissue slices had much more severe GnRH staining. In the examination of testes and epididymis, the histopathological damages were found. In addition, it was proved that there was a decrease in the testosterone levels. In the group in which the rose oil was applied with formaldehyde exposure it was seen that the hypothalamus slices had a severe GnRH staining. In the tissues of testes and epididymis samples, it was found that the histopathological changes were improved. We also determined that the testosterone levels increased and they approached to the control levels in this group. As a result, it can be expressed that serious damages occured via formaldehyde exposure in reproductive system and that the rose oil had protective effects against these damages.
