Abstract (EN)
The development of multiple resistance mechanisms that are increasingly used in the treatment of infectious diseases has accelerated the search for new antibiotic molecules. As most medicines are active molecules, plants are an important source of bioactive compounds. Strawberry (Fragaria vesca) fruit is a commonly consumed fruit. It was aimed to determine the effects of Strawberry (Fragaria L.) fruit on the DNA protective activity and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains which are influencing the hospital infection. The protective activity of H2O2 against DNA damage and UV rays was investigated on the fruit extract. Plasmid pBR322 was exposed to H2O2 and UV light for different times with methanol extract prepared at different concentrations and the results were displayed on gel. The results obtained show that Fragaria L. fruit extracts have the property of protecting DNA from oxidative damage. Disc diffusion and microdilution test studies on S. matophilia strains have shown that methanol extracts do not exhibit antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacteria. The results obtained can be evaluated in the future as cosmetic industry cream and new antibiotic molecule.
