It be compared according to ideas on their own job descriptions of school principals in Turkey and French

This study is a decriptive qualitative study with an approach that may beclassified as ?case study? and ?cultural analysis.? The views of School principals inTurkey and French are compared based on their own job descriptions and schoolorganizations. The study aims at contributing to research and development on thistopic.Within this goal, principlas in 2005-2006 academic year maximumvariation and critical case and convenience sampling methods are chosen tenprincipals in Çanakkale, Turkey and seven principals in Lyon in France. A semi-structured interview form and a list of questions with open-ended questions wasused. The reseracher himself and three individuals on behalf of the researcherconducted the interviews in France. Data coded thematically and the results basedon findings interpreted as follows:Although Turkish & French Principals differ, they indicate that their jobdescriptions are needed to be revised and stated clearly on all the variables taken intoconsideration. Duties, methods, and working conditions as well as in-service theduration and organization of training programs, the personal characteristics ofprincipals, strenghtening of schools in terms of finalcial and human resources,increasing participation of local authorities, restructuring and balancing authority andresponsibilites based on a classification of schools, selection of personnel,professional status, objectivity in selection and appointment to principalship differ.To this end, Ministry of Education further research that compares principalship andschool organization need to be carried out on different variables between Turkey andother developed countries may be useful.Key words: School principals, job description, compare education.
