The effects of the French revolution on European Painting and sculpture

The French Revolution is one of the greatest social and political events that deeply affected the entire world. This revolution was an event that brought about real change, development and interaction in many areas for Europe and the world. Limiting it to just France would be an oversimplification of this event. When you consider its effects on other countries, it will not be difficult to understand the magnitude of the event. It deeply affected many states and as a result, different nations declared their own independence and managed to survive to this day. Of course, in a place where there was so much war and chaos, artists did not sit idle and announced this to the world with their own methods of expression. They sometimes expressed this with a painting, sometimes with a caricature, sometimes with a poem and a song. Sometimes they created their works with the bloody face of war, sometimes with anger towards the king, and sometimes with a spirit of emulation of old heroes. At first, Neoclassicism, which developed with the spirit of turning to the past and telling the events of important figures, then Romanticism, which liked to tell these stories from a different perspective, Realism, which wanted to reflect the perception of the real world, and Impressionism, which reflected the rush and events of daily life, are some of the movements we included in our thesis. Along with these, the theme of war was used more in the paintings we selected. The reason for this is that the events we told in the French Revolution were supported by paintings. For example, in a painting that tells the story of the "Battle of the Bastille", it is possible to see and feel many of the events and the heroes. However, with the "Battle of the Town Hall", we can understand how determined people were to overthrow this order. We can understand how intense a period people living in the barricade period actually went through and how important the Revolution actually had. Nothing was the same after the revolution. In fact, it is one of the most important proofs that everything done should be done not for the king and those around him, but only for the people and for the benefit of the people. With this revolution, it was understood who the real powerful was and who had the power.
