The relationship between individual and society in Franz Kafka's stories

In this study, the most interesting stories of Franz Kafka (1883-1924), who presented the image to the service of thought through the literary works he wrote in a period when the industrialization was accelerating, were analyzed in terms of his thoughts on individual and society relations. The study consists of four parts. In the first chapter, information and techniques related to working under the title of research and method are given. In the second chapter, Kafka's life and works are given. In this chapter, firstly the stories of Kafka, which are the subject of the study, are summarized. These stories are respectively , 'The Metamorphosis', 'A Village Doctor', 'Criminal Colony', 'Judgment' and 'A Hunger Artist'. This section also summarizes Kafka's other works such as novels, diaries and letters. In the third part of the study, the stories included in the summary were analyzed in terms of self and social identity. In the fourth chapter, the effects of environment on individual and society are examined in Kafka's stories. In the last part of the study, Kafka's stories were analyzed in terms of the effects of capitalist order on the individual and society. At the end of the study, it was determined that the main problem of Kafka's stories was social alienation. As a result of industrialization, the disappearance of the traditional social form before modernity causes alienation. Although this alienation affects social relations most, it shows its effect as the most alienation types in individuals. Therefore, at the end of the study, Kafka's stories were found to be suitable for psychological analysis and suggestions were made to the researchers in this context.
