Abstract (EN)
Handmade sign board production has been replaced by industrial production with the impact of industrialization of outdoor advertising and digitalization of graphic productions. Field of work of sign painters narrowed and sign painting is started to seen as dissapearing trade. As well as having knowledge about many subjects which are important to graphic design diciplinary such as typography, lettering, color, sign painters have good command of many techniques which allow lettering designs to be applied on surfaces flawlessly and quickly. Productions of sign painting are important typographic accumulations that can be examined under the title of graphic design history and reflect local cultures. Graphic designers can not only utilize cultural aspect of old painted signs but also benefit from practices and knowledge of sign painting in their current projects. Sign painting which arosed from the need of advertising and promotion have lost its ground in advertising industry after digitalization. However, it started to find its new form with the impact of increasing media diversity in advertising industry.
