Exploring color changes arising from temperature effects in different colored commercial glasses used in kiln-formed glass shaping technique

Kiln-formed glass shaping technique has been one of the preferred methods in the history of glass art. Throughout history, this technique has evolved and changed with the development of glass production processes, both for artistic and industrial applications. Nowadays, similar techniques are used in glass production, allowing for faster, more professional, and larger-scale production. Furthermore, application environments, raw materials, materials used, and scientific knowledge have been developed. One of the most determining factors in the effect of glass production process is the color of the glass used in that technique. As a result, the psychological effects of colors, such as joy, sadness, and happiness, have become an important factor for some glass artists to create the desired impression. In this thesis, research has been conducted on the colors used in kiln-formed glass shaping technique, and the relationship between artists and colors has been identified. It has been observed that the color and tone of glass change during the heat treatment process in the kiln. It has been shown that different effects can be achieved in a controlled manner depending on the temperature and time applied during the heat treatment of glass. This study is expected to be a helpful resource for glass artists and those who use glass as an industrial material to obtain the desired color of glass in mold-making technique.
