A research on the use of smoked trout by-products as animal protein sources in trout diets

The present work was carried out in an attempt to use of smoked trout waste meal instead of a part of fish meal as an animal protein source in trout diets. The effects of the test diet on growth and development of rainbow trout were investigated after feeding them three months. The smoked trout waste was processed as a fish meal for to prepare test diet and added into the ration in fifty percent instead of fish meal. The test diet has been prepared by commercially Pınar Yem Ltd.-İzmir. The feeding trial has been carried out at Bagcı Su Urünleri A.Ş. in Koycegiz. Four groupsof rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) averagely weighted 60—65 grwere kept in four circular concret ponds. Each group contained a hundred fish. Two groups of fish were fed by test diet, the other groups of fish were fed by commercial pellet. After feeding trial no statistically significant difference (P < 0.01) were found among the groups on the live weight and length increase and also relation between length and weight increase. There were also no significant difference found among the test and the control groups on the condition factors and food conversion rates Organoleptic examination and chemical meat analysis has given similar results.
