Investigation of the relationship between football referees' attitudes towards video assistant referee system and referee self-efficacy

The aim of this article is to examine the relationship between soccer referees' attitudes towards the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system and their self-efficacy levels. The study was designed in the relational survey model since it deals with reflecting an existing situation as it is without any change and examining the relationship between concepts. The population of the study consists of 150 soccer referees working in different refereeing classifications. Simple random sampling method was used to determine the sample in the study. Necessary calculations were made with 95% confidence interval and 5% error rate to determine the sampling number in the study. The ideal number for the sample group was found to be 108. Normality analysis was performed to analyze the data in the study. Skewness and kurtosis values between -2 and +2 indicate that the data are suitable for normal distribution. Parametric tests were used to analyze the normally distributed data. Independent sample t-test for the comparison of two independent variables and one-way analysis of variance anova test for the comparison of more than two independent groups were applied. Pearson correlation analysis was applied to test the relationships between variables in the study. Path analysis was applied for the interaction between referee self-efficacy and attitude towards video assistant referee system. As a result, attitudes towards video assistant referee system had a positive and significant effect on referee self-efficacy of soccer referees (p<0.01).
