Valency in Gagauz Turkish

In this study, valencies of verbs and postposition in Gagauz Turkish has been examined. Every verb and postposition has different potential of valency. Determining the structure of a verb or postposition means to reveal the basic sentence structure for the verb or postposition. This study aimed at determing the potentials of verbs and postpositions in Gagauz Turkish.Gagauz Turkish Dictionary which was translated from Russian to Gagauz Turkish by Abdülmecit Doğru and İsmail Kaynak has been used for the selection of verbs. For the verbs that detected from the dictionary, sample sentences has been found by scanning the seven works written in Gagauz Turkish. Thus 400 verbs have been determined which were used in part of examination. This verbs have been seperated into three parts as process, activity and state verbs. Each verb has been evaluated in three levels as logical, syntactical and semantic valency. Afterward, sample sentences have been found for multiword meanings of identified 52 verbs. In short; these 52 words are polysemous. Valency forms of each verbs meanings have been examined. If valency form of the verb has differences between Gagauz and Turkey Turkish, these have been explained in annotations. After the verbs valency forms of 25 postposition have been examined. Nevzat Özkan?s work named Gagauz Turkish Grammar has been used in determination of the postposition. In this part, valency forms of 25 postpositions have been examined on sample sentences. In this way, valency potential of verbs and postposition in Gaguz Turkish has been evaluated.Key Words: Valency, verb, particle, Gagauz Turkish
