Abstract (EN)
This study, by the Neotectonic characteristics of Ganos Fault (Gaziköy-Saros Gulf), was studied to understand the structural evolution of Ganos Fault. Within the scope of geological mapping, along the Ganos Fault, a Middle-Late Miocene age was given by previous researchers to Çanakkale Group, in this study, Middle Miocene-Upper Pliocene age determined for this Group. In the study area, stratigraphic relations determined by using 1/25.000 scale geological mapping. Cretaceous aged Yenikoy Melange constitutes the basement of the area. These units are overlain uncomformably by the Tertiary sequences that includes Lower?Middle Eocene aged Gazikoy Formation with turbidite sediments, Lower?Middle Eocene aged turbiditic Keşan Formation and Middle?Upper Eocene aged limestones (Soğucak Formation). Also, Upper Eocene?Upper Oligocene aged andesites that belongs to Hisarlidağ Volcanics are in this Tertiary sequences. In Neogene, Eocene units overlaine with time gap and angular uncomformably by Canakkale Group. This group contains Middle?Upper Miocene aged sandstone, pebble, clay and mudstone. According to the oral conversation with Sevinc Kapan ? Yesilyurt, Upper Pliocene (Aktschagylian) aged was predicted for the fossil sandstone strata (in Canakkale Group) based of fossils that Avimactra venjukovi (Andrussow), Avimactra ososkovi (Andrussow), Avimactra karabugasica (Andrussow), Avimactra subcaspia (Andrussow). Using these datas Lower Miocene?Upper Pliocene aged can be gave for Canakkale Group. In the study area, this group is overlain by Upper Pleistocene aged marine terrace and Quaternary Alluvium overlies all the units horizontally. The fault kinematics analysis was carried out by evaluated parameters of fault planes measured along Ganos Fault. As a result of these analysis two tectonic regimes that are compatible with each other was determined in the region. These are mainly strike-slip faulting regime developed under NW-SE trending compressional regime (transtensional) and a consistent NE-SW trending extensional regime produce a the local normal faulting.Between 2003-2010, many earthquakes have occurred Ganos Fault and its vicinity. The focal mechanism of some earthquakes and these earthquakes joint inversion analysis results indicate that a strike-slip stress regime is active in the study area. These data are consistent with the results of fault kinematic analysis offer as a transtensional character.According to Rose diagram that was generated by the method of remote sensing lineament analysis, these lineaments have mainly parallel to the Ganos Fault and segments probably occured as a fault line under a NW-SE compressional and a NE-SW extensional regime were identified. As a result of field observations and other studies, Ganos Fault can probability produce an earthquake magnitude 7.0 and above as in the past.Key words: Ganos Fault, kinematics analysis, Neotectonics, remote sensing, earthquake focal mechanism analysis
