Abstract (EN)

In this study, a method was developed for the preconcentration of Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions by using columns containing mangosteen (Garcinia Mangostana) peece and then determining by atomic absorption spectrometry. Several factors affecting the extraction of the metal ions including pH, the eluent type and concentration, flow rate, sample volume, and effect of interfering ions were investigated. Optimum values of pH, flow rate and volume of sample solution were found as 4.0; 2 mL/min and 25 mL, for Pb2+. Optimum values of pH, flow rate and volume of sample solution were found as 4.0-6.0; 2 mL/min and 25 mL, for Cd2+. While Pb2+ ions were eluted with 5 mL of 1 mol/L HCl solution, Cd2+ ions were eluted with 5 mL of 0.5 mol/L HCl solution. Under the optimum experimental conditions determined, limit of detections for Pb2+ and Cd2+ were found as 10.1 μg/L and 11.0 μg/L, respectively. Because of the eluent volume is 5 mL and the sample volume is 25 mL, 5 were obtained as preconcentration factor. The accuracy was also checked by analyzing apple sample for Pb2+ and spinach sample for Cd2+. In spiked sample analyses, relative error was found 4.0% and 6.7% for Pb2+ and Cd2+, respectively.
