Abstract (EN)

In this study, based on the contemporary theory of metaphor put forward by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, the love metaphors in the first volume of the Süleymaniye Lâleli copy of Garib-nâme, a masnavi from the Old Anatolian Turkish period, were examined. This thesis consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, the theoretical framework of the study was presented in general, the term metaphor and contemporary theory of metaphor were tried to be explained. In the second part, information was given about the Old Anatolian Turkish period, Âşık Paşa and Garib-nâme. In the third chapter, the love metaphors identified in the first volume of Garib-nâme were discussed under headings and examples were given for each metaphor type. As a result of the examination, it has been seen that it is possible to apply the contemporary theory of metaphor to the Old Anatolian Turkish texts. It has been determined that the most frequently used love metaphors in the first volume of Garib-nâme are respectively LOVE IS A LIVING ORGANISM, LOVE IS AN OBJECT, LOVE IS CONTAINER, LOVE IS FIRE, LOVE IS WAY and LOVE IS A PHYSICAL FORCE. Key Words: Old Anatolian Turkish, Âşık Paşa, Garib-nâme, cognitive linguistics, cognitive semantics, metaphor, contemporary theory of metaphor, love metaphor.
