The health promotion life style behaviours of conscripts recruited in GMMA support troops commands

This descriptive study is designed to determine the health promotion life style behaviours of conscripts recruited in GMMA Support Troops Commands. Health promotion behaviours of coscripts were investigated according to the Health Promotion Life-Style Profile developed by Pender.The universe of this study consists 420 conscripts recruited in GMMA Support Troops Command between December 2007 and January 2008. Reaching the whole universe is aimed so that no sampling method is usedand 91% (n=380) of universe is enrolled in the study.Data in the study is collected by a questionary including 15 questions about sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics develeoped by the researcher Health Promotion Life Style Profile. HPLP and sub-group profile results are compared according to sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics. Mult-group comparisons are done by Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis and further by Mann-Whitney U test with bonferroni correction and one way variance analysis (ANOVA) and further by Tukey HSD test, two group comparisons are done by independent group t test ve Mann-Whitney U test. p<0.05 is accepted as statistically significant.According the results of the study; it has been shown that the mean score of conscripts recruited in GMMA Support Troops Command in Health Promotion Life Style Profile is 124.90±21.59 and mean item score is 2.60±0.45. The participant coscripts in this study scored highest in self actualization and interpersonal relations, lowest in exercise and health resposibility. It is suggested that behavioral factors including tobacco, alcohol use and substance abuse, sociodemographic variables including age, maritial status, education, number of children in the family, location of birth, location of residence, monthly income in the frame of Health Promotion Model has an effect on health promotion life style behaviours.
