Genital hygienic behaviors and their effect on vaginal infection of the women who apply to GATA Women's İllnesses and Birth Clinic

Özet (EN)

Research was made as a case-control study for determining the genital hygienic behaviors and their effects on vaginal infections of the women who apply to GATA Women?s Illnesses and Birth Clinic. The universe of case group is women who have diagnosed with vaginitis after a gynecological examination, universe of the control group is women who are not diagnosed with vaginitis after a gynecological examination. In estimating the questionnaire of the research, GHDE points are used and in the pilot study the questionnaire amount was given as 100 people each for both of the groups. In data collection, question form and GHDE are used. In the question form socio-demographical, fertility characteristics and genital hygiene questions are asked. The data acquired, are evaluated in SPSS for Microsoft 15.00 software program as percentage distribution, minimum and maximum values and using Student?s T test. The comparison between groups, women diagnosed with vaginal infection and women not diagnosed with vaginal infection are made through ki-square test. Odds ratio was estimated to determine the risk factors. In the research, GHDE point average of case grup is found to be 77.41±9.05, whereas GHDE point average of women in control group is found to be 82.58±9.43 and in the statistical evaluation made the difference between the groups are found to be meaningful (p <0.05). Also among the women?s hygienic habits the following are found to be effective in the development of vaginal infections ?to control the genital area for indications of illness?, ?to car efor the cleanliness of genital area?, ?frequency of changing underwear?, ?type of underwear?, ?going to a doctor in case of painful and bleeding intercourse?, ?cleaning the hands before changing the pad and going to the toilet? (p<0.05). As a conclusion it is found that certain mistaken genital hygiene behaviors are tend to be risky in vaginal infections and training and consultancy services support are required for genital hiygiene and for protecting the women from vaginal infections.
