Abstract (EN)
In this study, gaseous fuel-oxygen flames were studied from their heat transfers and burning velocities point of view. In order to compare these flames for their heat transfers and effectiveness in heating processes, the cutting times of the rods made of different materials were measured. It was observed that the speed of the cutting of the rod depends on the efficiency of the flame and this flame effects all the other heat processes. Natural gas, acetylene, propane, butane gases were used in the experiments aS fuel gases. The materials used were aluminum, brass and glass rods. The effect of burner on fuel flow rates were exanıined by changing the arms of the burner. The variations in equivalence ratio were obtained by changing the oxygen gas ratio and the effect of oxygen gas on thecutting time was studied. Minimum cutting times were found in the region where the oxygen ratio is higher than its stoichi oınetric value (0=0.85) for aluminum and brass rods but in the region where oxygen ratio was equal to its stoichiometric value (0=1) for glass rods. Acetylene was observed to have the highest burning velocity based on the systematic investigation of burning velocities. The other gases were graded aS natural gas, butane, propane according to their decreasing burning Velocities. Acetylene was observed to have the least energy consumption f or cutting of the ı,!ıateria}s. The other gases were graded as butane, propane, natural gas according to their increasing energy consumption. For the gas fuel-oxygen flames, the cost of fue]. and oxygen used in the process of cutting the rods, was expected to be proportional to the cost of all heating processes. Although the most expensive fue]- gas is acetylene and the cheapest one is natural gas, the factor nost affecting the total cost is the flow rate and the pr j.ce of the oxygen gas used. Thus, in this case the most expensive act of cutting was hıith acetylene oxygen flame. The other fuels were classified as acetylene, propane, butane, LPG, natural gas based on their decreasing costs.
