Ghazâlî's conception of kasb and tawakkul

The relationship between Kasb and Tawakkul is a problematic that has been discussed since the zuhd period, when sufism began to proliferation. How zahid/sufis, who are people of tawakkul as the result of zuhd life, will take a stand against social life/world life can be shown as the root cause of this problem. The sufis generally discussed a problem this issue with the distinction of avam-havas. Kasb had seen as allowable and necessary for the avam, but for the havas, it had seen as a valueless that had to be abandoned as a result of their knowledge (marifa). Since the zuhd period, sufis have stated their thoughts about this relationship according to their own khals and maqams. al-Muḥāsibī (d. 243/857) from his book Kitab al-Mekasib, this subject has started to be mentioned under special titles in the works of sufis. In addition to the many sufis who own the works together with the al-Muḥāsibī, the sufis who aren't authors have mentioned their views on the subject. The discussions of the kasb-tawakkul relationship were continued until G̲h̲azālī (d. 505/1111). The Sufis ' goal here is to try to settle this relationship on a proper basis. G̲h̲azālī also speak of this issue separately, especially in his works called Iḥyâʾü ʿulûmi'd-dîn and his Kimyâ-yı Saʿâdet, which is a compendium of its. G̲h̲azālī has also benefited from the views of the sufis before him in his works. G̲h̲azālī, who examined the issues in detail, has come up with unique opinions/solutions. This study aims to determine Gazali's views on the matter of kesb-tawkkül based on his works mentioned. Therefore, the first part of the study examined G̲h̲azālī's life in general terms. Then the meanings of the concepts and the thoughts of the previous sufis were examined. After examining G̲h̲azālī 's thoughts separately, an evaluation was made in the conclusion section.
