The progress in the newspaper language in the past sixty years and ıts comparison with the Turkish textbooks' language

In this study, over the course of the past 60 years, the process of the newspaper language and its reflections on the Turkish textbooks is researched.2502 items are determined in the September 26, 1946 issue of the newspaper, whereas 6071 items are determined in the September 26, 2006 issue. In the September 26, 1946 issue, the items are composed of; 86 idioms; 21 association-board names; 1 proverb; 2394 words and phrases. In the September 26, 2006 issue, there exist; 331 idioms; 99 association-board names; 2 proverbs; 5639 words and phrases.The number of the words and phrases units is taken as the basis to proportion their respective origins. Thus, 2394 units in the September 26, 1946 issue and 5639 units in the September 26, 2006 issue are searched for their origins. Through 60 years, an increase from 45% to %64 in the rate of use of Turkish is observed.The language of the Turkish textbooks that are used in 1945-1946 and 2005-2006 school years are surveyed. It is infered that the textbooks are more attentive than the newspapers regarding word choice.Finally, proposals are drawn for the enrichment of the language and to illuminate the students due to the capabilities of Turkish language.Key Words : Language, newspaper language, language of the Turkish textbooks, word, phrase.
