Turkish revolution in the writings of The Journalist Mehmet Asim Us (1923-1938)

In this study, the attitude of journalist Mehmet Asım Us, witnessed the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the Establishment of the Republic of Turkey, towards the Turkish Revolution (1923-1938) was analyzed. In this direction, archival documents contains information about the life of Mehmet Asım Us, writings in Vakit and Kurun newspapers and memoirs of Turkish Revolution were used. Mehmet Asım Us, who was born in Gördes district of Manisa in 1884, completed his first education in the district where he was born and then came to Istanbul for his education. After completing his secondary education in Beşiktaş Military Middle School, Asım Us entered the Property School for higher education after completing his high school education at Vefa High School. After graduating from Mulkiye, he worked as a Lottery Clerk at Ziraat Bank and served in bureaucratic positions in various provinces until 1910. Starting his career as a journalist with Tanin in 1910, Us began to be known for his columns entitled "From the Creek to the Hill" and "Cartoon". Asım Us, who had to take a break from his writings due to a number of health problems during the Balkan War, became a partner of journalist Ahmet Emin Yalman in 1917 in Vakit Newspaper and this cooperation lasted five years. He became the sole owner of Vakit Newspaper in 1923. He and his journalist brothers, Hakkı Tarık Us and Hasan Rasim Us, began to publish the Newspaper together. In this way, the newspaper became an Us Brothers' newspaper. In 1927, Asım Us was elected as a deputy of Artvin from Republican People's Party. At the same time, he maintained his journalist identity during his membership of parliament. Asım Us left politics completely and continued journalism when the Democratic Party came to power. In 1956, he was deeply shaken with the death of his brother, Hakkı Tarık, and in the face of the death of his brother Hakkı Tarık and began to live a stagnant life. In 1967, he heard that his younger brother Hasan Rasim has died and in December 11,1967, Asım Us had a brain hemorrhage because of a traffic accident and he died at the age of 83.
