Abstract (EN)

Individuals are thought to have a high level of support and solidarity in the educational process, which may be related to the level of listening abilities of individuals. The aim of the study is to determine the variables that can affect the level of listening ability of the students who are studying at Gazi University and Atatürk University. This study was carried out on a total of 498 students (229 female and 269 male students), who were educated in Gazi and Atatürk University Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department in 2016-2017 education year. Listening skills scale developed by Cihangir and Çankaya (2012) was used to collect data. In the analysis of the data, T test was used to determine the relationship between frequency distribution, two independent variables and levels of listening ability and Anova variance analysis techniques were used to determine the relationship between the variables and the level of listening abilities. The difference between the opinions of the groups was interpreted by considering the significance level of P< 0,05. According to the findings, it was found that there was a significant difference between the average scores of the listening ability scales when the students were examined in terms of variables such as university, gender, family structure and performing sports. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the average of listening abilities and marital status and the types of sports they were performing. It has been observed that Gazi University students have higher levels of listening ability than Atatürk University students, likewise female students have higher levels than male students, fragmented family students have higher levels than students with different family structures and students who do not perform sports have higher levels than students who perform sports. As the duration of performing the sport is increased, the level of listening skill decreases. As a recommendation, Individuals who practice sports need to be encouraged to read personal development books for the development of listening skills that have an important impact on communication in order to be more successful in sporting activities and learning processes and should be supported to participate conferences emphasizing the importance of communication. It is also suggested to research the different variables that affect listening skills in communication in students.
