EVALUATION OF CZERNY OP. 599 ETUDES THAT ARE BEING USED FOR PIANO TRAINING AT GAZI UNIVERSITY, EDUCATION OF FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT, CHAIR OF MUSIC EDUCATION, REGARDING PIANO TEACHING (Master's Thesis) Meral METE GAZİ ÜNİVERSİTESİ INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES Ankara 2004 ABSTRACT In this research, it is aimed to evaluate the Czerny Op. 599 etudes, their place in piano training, the reasons for Czerny etudes being still used in the Gazi University Faculty of Education, Fine Arts Department, Chair of Music Education, and to present and explain Czerny' s methodology. The research, being a descriptive one, is prepared with "resource browsing" and "survey application" methods and the data acquired by the surveys are converted to frequency and percentage tables. The universe of the research consists of GÜ GEF GSEB Chair of Music Education, and the sample consists of instuctores at GÜ GEF GSEB Chair of Music Education. Finally it has been concluded that the etude studies has an important place in the piano training, the instructors are using Czerny etudes from introduction level to higher levels and the Czerny Op. 599 etudes are valid, reliable and introductory material for piano technique. iiiKeywords : Piano Training, Education, Czerny Op.
