The prevalance of asthma and allergic diseas, and risk factors among 7-8 years old school children in gaziantep area

The prevelance of asthma and the other allergic diseases increase in our country as worldwide by the day. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence and risk factors of asthma and other allergic disorders in Gaziantep city.The study was performed with 1877 school children aged between 7-8 years from January to December 2010 in Gaziantep city using the ISAAC phase 1 protocol. Eleven primary school was selected randomizely to represent Gaziantep universal. 913 (51.4 %) children was boy and 964 (48.6%) was girl.In this study; the prevalance of ever wheezing was % 28.3, current wheezing was % 11.6 and doctor diagnosed asthma was % 7.0.In our study; the prevalance of cumulative allergic rhinitis was % 30.0, current allergic rhinitis was % 24.0, current allergic rhinoconjuctivitis was 11.2, doctor diagnosed allergic rhinitis was % 13,2.In our study; prevelance of current itchy rash was % 11.2 and doctor diagnosed atopic dermatitis was % 4,6.In our study we established allergic disease history in family, presence of mould and history of pneumonia at first 2 age as an important risk factors for asthma. Allergic diseases history in family and presence of mould at home were established the most important risk factors for allergic rhinitis.Allergic disease history in family and living the first 7 years in county borough were established he most important risk factors for atopic dermatitis.In conclusion we have stated that asthma and the other allergic diseases were serious morbidity for children in our country under the data of established in this study.
