Living in Karkamiş district of Gaziantep Barak Türkmen (A sociological approach)

The research consists of introduction and also two parts. In the introduction, methodological information is given about the research, basic information is discussed and explained. The historical, economic, cultural and religious structure of Karkamis area, is mentioned in the research. In the first chapter, informations are given about the historical adventure of Barak Turkmens, the source of Barak name, its place in the Turkish stature system and the geography they live. In the second part, the religious and social life of Barak Turkmens are discussed and emphasized on birth and children, marriage and wedding, death, burial and condolence issues, which are clustered around the customs, traditions and beliefs are touched, the concepts, objects and phenomena that make up Barak culture are mentioned. Room, folk song, lament and story occupy a large place in Barak Turkmen culture. These objects, which have a great effect on carrying the customs and traditions of Barak to these days; also it is determined that these objects will have an important place in transferring this culture to the future generations. This study is based on the information we receive from the written documents, the interviews we have done in the field and the observations we observe by living in the region.
