Architect Bekir Sıtkı Severoğlu in the development process of Gaziantep

This study comprehensively examines the life, activities, and contributions of Architect Bekir Sıtkı Severoğlu, who played a significant role in the cultural, social, sporting, and economic development of Gaziantep. From Severoğlu's family background and education to his professional development and urban initiatives, his contributions at both individual and societal levels are analyzed in detail. Prominent aspects include his efforts to preserve the city's history through specially prepared calendars, his comic book project on the Defense of Antep, his struggle to ensure that the Zeugma mosaics remained in Gaziantep, his projects during his presidency of the tourism association, and his legal and cultural initiatives for the restoration of historical sites, along with his urban-scale works such as the Panorama 25 December Gaziantep Defense Museum, Kamil Ocak Stadium, and the Yesemek Platform, as well as his leadership roles in professional architectural organizations and civil society activities. Furthermore, his contributions to the dissemination of awareness regarding the national struggle, cultural heritage, and urban consciousness through conferences, panels, exhibitions, documentaries, and various media projects are documented with supporting evidence. In conclusion, this work not only narrates Bekir Sıtkı Severoğlu's personal life story and achievements but also serves as an important historical record of the social and cultural transformation of Gaziantep between 1990 and 2025.
