Evaluation of treatment efficiency and side effects of patients with chronic hepatitis B who were admitted to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital between 2010-2020

Chronic hepatitis B infection is one of the important health problems in our country as well as all over the world. In our retrospective thesis study, we aimed to investigate the treatment responses of patients who applied to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital between 2010-2020 and received treatment for chronic hepatitis B infection in terms of virological, serological, biochemical. Our study included 412 patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B. Necessary info -including Gender, age, fibrosis and HAI results in liver biopsy, type of antiviral treatment applied, AST, ALT, platelet, INR, creatinine, urea, AFP and HBV DNA levels before treatment and at the 6th, 12th and 24th months of treatment, HBsAg, Anti-HBs, HBeAg, Anti-HBe statuses- were recorded via the hospital automation system. Of the 412 patients, 236 (57.28%) were male, 176 (42.72%) were female, and the mean age of the patients was 44.04±12.49. When the treatments received by the patients are examined; 178 (43.2%) TDF, 200 (48.54%) ETV, 18 (4.37%) LAM 13 (3.16%) PegINF- and 3 (0.73%) patient was receiving TBV treatment. The mean fibrosis score of the patients was 2.68±0.93, and the mean HAI was 5.09±2.16. It was found that 316 (77.1%) patients were negative for HBeAg and 94 (22.9%) patients were positive before treatment. Viral suppression was significantly greater in the early TDF group. In addition, the creatinine levels of the patients who received tenofovir treatment were found to be significantly higher at the 12th and 24th months compared to the ETV group.As a result, while TDF treatment is the most effective treatment in patients with rapid virology response, alternative treatments should be preferred as much as possible in patients with impaired renal function.
