Abstract (EN)

Excessive consumption, which occurs as a result of the consumption-production approach of the economy that is dominant today, causes wasteful use of resources. One of the aims of the study is to reveal how consumption, need and extravagance are handled in Islamic economics and whether moral values contribute to the efficient use of resources. The other purpose of the study is to determine how much food is wasted in Adapazarı, Erenler and Serdivan districts in Sakarya province, by considering the waste of food products, which is one of the wasted resources, and how the effects of the perception of waste on consumption and savings. It aims to determine how these effects are reflected in the social structure.Mixed research method was used in the study. With the simple random sampling method, which is one of the quantitative research methods, a questionnaire was applied to the households residing in Adapazarı, Erenler Serdivan, the districts of Sakarya, and the data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS 26 program and frequency analysis was carried out to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants and the waste of food products. In this study, case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, was preferred. 482 people from the mentioned districts participated in the study and 446 of them were taken into account. As an observation study, food wastes were observed and classified for 11 weeks in the Wednesday market established in Adapazarı district.
