Abstract (EN)
Pregnancy is not only an unforgettable and nice experience in women?s life, but also it is troublesome. Though being a mother starts with pregnancy and birth and continues naturally during whole life, it brings many changes in physiological, psychological, and social situation. Among these changes sleepiness is an important factor that affects the quality of life and pregnancy.The aim of this study was to measure sleep quality during pregnancy, and to determine its corresponding factors that affect sleep quality.Our study was conducted on 100 healthy pregnant women who apply Ahmet Necdet Sezer Hospital of Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe University. Data was collected using face-to-face method. A standard questionnaire (Appx:1) was used to record sociodemographic properties and status of their pregnancy.Sleep quality was evaluated by Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (Appx:2), sleep apnea by Berlin Questionnaire (Appx:3), and sleepiness status by Epworth Sleepiness Scale (Appx:4).Sleep quality was determined as poorer in 86% of women. It is found that sleep quality is related to age, obesity, applying to a doctor, and other illnesses affecting pregnancy.During pregnancy pharmacological researches has been never conducting on sleep problems due to their effects on fetus. Thus, some care has been taken during the treatment of sleep problems among pregnant. Nevertheless, it is important to treat the discomforts like sleep respiration disorder and restless leg syndrome as soon as possible. Furthermore, it is suggested to inform pregnant women about sleep and sleep disorders, and to improve their attitudes to sleep hygiene.
