The maternity role nausea/vomiting in pregnancy and the relation between the acceptance of pregnancy

This study was planned according to determine the relation between nausea and vomiting in pregnancy the role of maternity and the acceptance of pregnancy.In this study, the sample group (n=300 pregnants) of the study was composed by the patients that applied to Gynecology Outpatient Clinics of the Izmir Aegean Maternity and Gynecological Diseases Education and Research Hospital.Descriptive data form, Nausea/Vomiting Assessment Tool in Pregnancy and the acceptance of the role of maternity Prenatal Self Assessment Scale and the acceptance of the pregnancy subscales were used as data collection tools. All the data were recorded by the face to face interviewing technics with volunteer women.In the analysis of the data, correlation analysis was used in order to determine the relation between the acceptance of the maternity role and nausea/vomiting the acceptance of the pregnancy.In this study, mean of age was found as 26. 6 +/-4. 7 (min:18, max:44). Pregnant women who examined within the scope of research the Nousea and Vomiting in Pregnancy Instrument?s mean scores 5.3, Prenatal Self Evaluation Questionnaire subscales for situation of relationship with acceptance of pregnancy 21.8, with acceptance of maternal role 21.6 were found to be. Positively significant relationship between nausea/vomiting and acceptance of pregnancy was found when the nausea/vomiting increased the acceptance of pregnancy decreased. A significant relation was not found between nausea/vomiting and the role of maternity.As a result, when the nausea/vomiting increased then the acceptance of the pregnancy decreased. Nurses should take into consideration that the acceptance of the pregnancy and nausea/vomiting should be defined when planning the care of the pregnant women.Key Words: Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, maternal role, pregnancy adaptation
