Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to adapt the Body Image in Pregnancy Scale (BIPS), which was developed to assess body image during pregnancy, into Turkish and to investigate its reliability and validity. The study included 379 individuals with a mean age of 27.2 years and gestational age ranging from 1-40 weeks. Turkish adaptation of the BIPS was performed according to the Beaton protocol. Within the scope of the initial evaluation, the evaluation form and BIPS were perfomed to the individuals. All pregnant women, whose initial evaluations were completed, were re-perfomed 3 days later. In the reliability analysis of the BIPS, the internal consistency coefficient was examined with Cronbach's alpha and item total score correlations were analyzed. Chronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.892. The repeatability of the scale was analyzed by test-retest method. At this stage, the Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between the measurement results obtained by applying the same scale 3 days apart and it was shown that the scale had test-retest reliability. The split half reliability method was used to analyze the relationship between the scores of the scale. As a result of this analysis, the Cronbach's Alpha value of the first half of the scale was 0.804, the Cronbach's Alpha value of the second half was 0.868 and the Spearman Brown coefficient was 0.713. The validity analysis of the BIPS was analyzed with face and construct validity methods. It was determined by the experts that the BIPS had face validity. Construct validity was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with 7 sub-dimensions and 36 items in accordance with the original scale. As a result of CFA, items 6, 32, 33 and 34 were removed from the Turkish version of the scale and the scale was finalized with 6 sub-dimensions and 32 items. In this study, it was determined that the 6 sub-dimensions and 32 item version of the BIPS is a valid, reliable and applicable scale for pregnant Turkish women.
