Waste management and environmental awareness approach of nursing department students in late adolescent period: The case of Sinop

This study was planned as a descriptive study in order to evaluate the waste management and environmental awareness approach of nursing students in late adolescence (18-21 years). The population of the study consisted of 306 students studying in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades of the Nursing Department of Sinop University School of Health. The study was completed with a total of 254 students, 171 female (67.32%) and 84 (32.68%) male students who agreed to participate in the study. "Waste Management Awareness Survey" prepared by the researcher as a data collection tool, including the personal information of students, and Goldman et al. The "Environmental Behaviour Scale" developed by Timur and Yilmaz (2013) was used by Timur and Yilmaz (2013) and adapted to Turkish culture In the statistical evaluation of the data; licensed SPSS 21 package program. Shapiro Wilk's was used to investigate the normal distribution of variables. 0.05 was used as the level of significance when interpreting the results. Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H Tests were used to examine the differences between the groups. Since the number of units is more than 20, standardized z values are given for Mann Whitney U Test. Spearman's Correlation Coefficient was used to examine the relationships between variables not coming from the normal distribution. Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used to examine the relationships between the variables coming from the normal distribution. As a result of the research; The total score of the Environmental Behavior Scale of the students who participated in the study was determined as 64.83 ± 11.26. In addition, no statistically significant difference was found between the environmental behavior scale and gender, maternal education level, father education level, monthly allowance, class level, place of residence before arrival to university, and housing status. .
