Christianity in Antakya in the past and today

Antioch was established by one of Alexander the Great?s generals Seleukos, and hasbeen the capital during the Roman Empire Period. Antioch is a cultural dwelling centre, inwhich people from many religions and believes live in a harmony, because of its geographic,economical and social position.Except Jerusalem, Christianity first spread in Antioch and the followers of this religionwere called ?Christian? in Antioch. The apostles visited Antioch and here St. Petrusestablished Antioch Church. Later, the Pope declared here as a pilgrimage place. As a resultof these events, Antioch gained more importance for the Christians.After telling the history of Antioch in the introduction, the birth of Christianity,apostles? coming to Antioch, the establishment of Antioch Church and the important religiousmen who served in this church are told in the second part.The rites, worships and sacraments of this church which is stil serving actively, weretold as the last subject.
