Architectural design boundaries with variables from past to future, instance of Aksaray city center

Cities are an indication that the needs of living mechanisms such as common housing, work, settlement and entertainment are met. The city squares, which are accepted as a triangulation point, are the beginning of the formation as in the past ages. For example, Aksaray City Center it was introduced to the concept of the city with the influence of the Hittite Sovereignty, which established city-states in B.C 1700, and remained under the administration of the Roman Empire for a while. It is known that the city square and its surroundings were constructed starting from the focal point where the Government House is located in the historical process from the Roman Empire to today's Republic Period. The spatial configuration creates the scopes of city square, city center, city focus and urban identity over time. Architecture is a discipline that adds spirit to the space and reveals the assets. As Turgut Cansever said, 'While buildings form the environment of our life order, they also shape our lifestyle.'. The discipline of architecture is not independent of limiting factors while shaping our lifestyle. Architectural design gives an identity to the city with its borders within the scope of time and space relation. According to Vitruvius durability, functionality and aesthetics are accepted as basic requirements in architectural theory. Along with the basic requirements, there are many factors limiting the design such as cultural, sociological, technological, political and economic. The discipline of architecture, which shapes our life order with the boundaries of design, emerges at the human scale, in the focus of sun and privacy. In thesis work, ,the aim and importance of the study, its scope, problem determination, spatial index and collective memory analysis methods within the scope of the city center are discussed. The relationship of time and space with variables from the past to the future has been mentioned. The periods that had an impact on Aksaray City Center were emphasized; Modern Period, National Architectural Movements, 20th Century Architecture, Early Republican Period and Republican Period. Cities, which are a living mechanism, are considered together with the boundaries of architectural design. In addition to the cultural, economic and technological factors that form the design boundaries, concepts such as urban memory, memory and architectural identity that change and shape the design boundaries are mentioned. Urban design strategies are examined within the scope of urban identity, urban cover and urban texture. Urban centers and city squares designed and transformed in the urban context, at national and international level, are examined as examples. The history of Aksaray City Center, public buildings and spaces, which is briefly discussed together with Aksaray city history, is discussed. In Aksaray City Center, problems with urban strategies and methods have been identified, and the analysis of dysfunctional and functioning foci in the city has been made with the spatial index method. Within the scope of collective memory, the perspective of the society was measured and evaluated by the questionnaire method. Considering the relation of time and space, together with the determinations, the boundaries of architectural design and how the city center from the past to the future should be established within the scope of design strategies in the context of identity, collective memory, and the spirit of the place are discussed. At the end of the study, collective memory was measured and evaluated with the questionnaire method. In the context of the growing demographic structure, the density problem has been discussed with spatial index analysis. Aksaray City Center, which is under the influence of globalization, is evaluated within the scope of the world city phenomenon.
