Abstract (EN)

The aim of the MA thesis, conducted under the name ? Exlibris from past to present in Germany?, is not only to research how exlibris emerged in Germany, what stages it went through, and how it developed, but also to study the artists according to their era, to obtain to the exlibris collections in Germany, to examine the role of the German Exlibris association in the exlibris movement in Germany and to define exlibris in our time. During the course of this study, research methods of source scanning, chat and survey have been employed. The first two years of the study were conducted at Anadolu University and the last year of it continued at HAWK Hochschule Für Angewante Wissenschaft Und Kunst in Germany. With this aim, the study was carried out in museums along with reseach in libraries, firstly in Hildesheim, Hannover, Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Kölln and Wolfenbüttel in Germany. The exlibris collection and books in the museum of Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel were examined. Birgit Göbel Stiegler, one of the excutives of the German Exlibris Assosiation (D.E.G.), was seen interviewed about the thesis and her collection was studied. Dr. Henry Tauber, who is a member of German Exlibris Assosiation and has a Ph.d. and a great many books concerning the German Exlibris was interviewed. Taubers?s exlibris collection was checked and research was conducted in his private library. During the research period, the congres of the German Exibris Assosiationin in April, 2007 was observed. At this congres, the executives and members of the assosiation and the exlibris collectionist became acquainted with eachother. A short survey, made up of four questions was conducted. During the course of the congre, the exlibris collection in Schloßburg Museum was examined. Included in this thesis are the exlibris studies which were exhibited at the HAWK/ Hildesheim stand at the Leipzig Book Fair under the supervision of Dip. Des. Paul Kunofski. Exlibris was put into practice with Dip. Des. Christoph Lemmer at HAWK/ Hildesheim. The personal exlibris exhibition consisting of exlibris practices in the thesis opened at the Nienburg Spargel Museum on 20th May, 2007. A general literatur scanning was carried out through study at HAWK/ Hildesheim, Bilkent University, Anatolian Civilization Museum, Anadolu University, Y.Ö.K. library and internet sources. A variety of museum studies was conducted, firstly in Germany, Italy, Polland, Spain, Belgium, France, and Turkey.research was completed by evaluating all data and observation during the research according to the aim of the thesis. In this thesis, modern German Exlibris conceptionists and people interested in the subject interms of theory were contacted and ideas and sources were exchanged. As a result, all these studies conducted throw light on the modern German art of Exlibris modern exlibris first emerged in Germany and provided its most developed examples in Germany . the name ? Exlibris? became universal throughout Germany, too. Articles and magazines have been published to promote exlibris, not only in practice, but also to eliminate the theortical deficiencies in this area. The German exlibris assosiation, founded in 1891, is an institution which brings artist and collectionists together. This is the oldest association is its field and it stil exists. The development of the art of exlibris in Germany, which enjoys an important position throughout Europe in the area of printmaking, its position today and German Exlibris conceptionnists were examined through this thesis
