Abstract (EN)
It is seen that Rūmī's works are also followed in the Western world. Rūmī is at the top of bestsellers in Europe and America. It is known that his works have been translated into Western languages as full text and research has been done on them; however, the level of recognition of Rumi in the West and what kind of Rūmī thought he had are not precisely known. Our thesis aims to perceive how Westerners understand Rūmī. It is known that the first recognition of Mawlānā in the West was through the works of European travelers, translations and samā. For this reason, our thesis includes translations from the past to the present, academic studies in the West about Rūmī and the Mawlawī. Order formed in his name, studies on this subject in Turkey towards the West, non-academic independent works written in the West, internet articles, and internet news, including events, symposiums, conferences, founded centers, community activities, and studies. The first part of our thesis discusses general information about Rūmī, the spiritual state in the West, the influence of Rūmī on this society, the historical determination of the process of meeting Rūmī in the West, and the works on Rūmī in the West. The second part, evaluates the works of prominent western authors, symposium papers, workshop documents and comments. As a result of our research, it is understood that the Westerners, after living a secular life by leaving the church phenomenon in the historical process went into a spiritual search and they met Rūmī and they adopted him they felt that Rūmī sheds light on their own lives with his understanding of love and tolerance. In this context, it has been concluded that Westerners see Mawlānā as an important poet, a spiritual guide, and in a sense a philosopher.
