Abstract (EN)

Folklore is an important branch of science that covers the literature, traditions and customs, culture and lifestyle of a nation and researches and examines the products that exist on these subjects. The customs that occur in the transition periods of life in Turkish culture have an important place in terms of folklore. There are three important transitional stages of human life: birth, marriage and death. This long journey is very important in terms of containing many customs that reflect our cultural richness. However, it is possible to say that the customs applied do not remain the same, and that they have come to the present day by undergoing some changes from the past to the present. Over time, some applications have lost their meaning and validity, while others have been reshaped by keeping up with the developing age. With the increasing migration from the village to the city, important elements of folk culture have lagged behind the times and have been gradually forgotten. When we look at today, some of our customs, which have important values in the transition stages of life, continue to keep themselves alive with the change brought by technology. Traditions and customs reflecting cultural identity vary from region to region, from city to city and even from village to village. Although traditions and customs vary, they continue to be applied before, during and after the stages of the transition period in almost every part of Anatolia. The customs of the transition period in Dedeyolu (Yukarı Huh) Village, which is connected to the Sivrice district of Elâzığ province, were compiled from the source persons by conducting field work in the form of changing and developing from the past to the present. The customs of the transition period, which were compiled under the leadership of the source persons, were discussed in order within certain stages. The study explains the forgotten transitional periods to revive our customs and what changes they have undergone today. This study, which acts as a cultural bridge between the past and the present, aims to make a new contribution to the studies of the turning stages of life and to increase cultural interaction.
